What kind of community service would be considered truly amazing and make you really stand out as an applicant? (I'm a senior, so I'm just wondering if I did is amazing or not worth dwelling on too much...)

Just community service in general. NO college is expecting you to take a pilgrimage to Ghana or Siberia to build houses for impoverished children for a semester (though it would be pretty impressive). Taking part in a blood drive, community AIDs walk, or even tutoring children is beneficial not only for you but to the college community of your choice; it shows you are well-rounded. Don’t worry ;-).

Thanks, but I’m asking more what would qualifies community service to be a wow-factor, something amazing that will give you a much better chance at admissions? I didn’t do it for the college resume, but i’m wondering if it will give me a BIG edge.

Depends on the college. Some colleges look for well rounded people other than GPA.

if u were to be accepted on community service it would have to be somthing extrodinary like starting ur own successful (like state wide, not only ur community) sservice organization, or be an influential person in such a organization, or year in ghana like the other person said, etc http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/822268-chance-me-please-ea.html

To me it means nothing all that matters is grades and SATs.

I’m applying to the ivies and several other top schools, so grades and sats aren’t all that matter where i’m applying
