B.A. in English

Dear everyone,

I am currently doing an International business major, which I like, but not like on the other hand, it's something I'd like to do as a hobby, not as my job when I'm done with college.

I'm still thinking about staying and finishing but if there are interesting job opportunities available for English majors, I'd like to hear them. I'd actually like to hear any career prospects for an English major.

So please shoot away and help me decide! :D

As an international student in the US, your job prospects with an English major are nil.

I don’t know what sort of job prospects you have with an English major in the Netherlands.

An English degree is not marketable anywhere. With the exception of Asia where english teachers are sought after. To put it midly,an English degree is not too lucrative.Stick with business.

Thanks for the responses!

I have to say, I have done some research, if I were to do a B.A. in English and after that a master in something like sales, I’d have my fair share of job opportunities.

If I’m wrong please say so, also I’d rather not be a teacher, and as of what I’ve researched, there’s plenty of other possibilities with a B.A. in English. I don’t know if those kind of jobs only apply to native speakers, and International students are unwanted, but I couldn’t find anything on that matter.

^ Of course you can get a Master’s degree in something else. But then it’s the Master’s degree that gets you your job, and not your Bachelor’s degree.

English majors (without graduate degrees) usually get jobs based on skills and experience that they have acquired outside of the classroom. That doesn’t work for international students because you won’t get a work visa for that type of job.
