I see B+B mentioned quite a bit. Can someone tell me what this is?
Does this have anything to do with I-day?

B&b- it stands for bed and breakfast. Those traveling alone have the option of staying with a sponsor family the night before i-day. There will generally be about 3 basics per family for the bed and breakfast. This family, however, will not necessarily be your permanent sponsor family. Any others correct me if I am wrong, but this is what I have read/been told.

How does one go about getting a sponsor the night before? I have decided to go alone and need a place to stay.

You should receive info about the program either with your appointee packet or soon thereafter. If not, contact the AOG (Association of Graduates) and they will get you squared away.

The sponsor family will pick you up the day before I-day at the airport (generally with 2 others like mitchell said) and take you to their home in the area. It's a great way to relax, calm the nerves, and get to know a couple familiar faces before you leave the next day. They usually cook your last home-cooked meal. :) I have heard mostly some sort of BBQ usually, then you get up the next morning, eat up, and head out the door. I had a 1979 grad (retired as a full colonel within the month), then he and his brother-in-law (1980 grad) were awesome. They told us stories and how things have gone for them in USAFA and beyond. Helped calm my nerves a lot and I was ready for BCT the next day. I would do it the same way if I had to do it again!

Are these sponsor families available to cadets coming in WITH thier families? I.e. while the incoming family would obviously stay at a local hotel, would they be able to get together for a dinner, etc. to talk thru what is about to happen to thier kid?

MMMM, that's a doozy. I don't think that the idea is to have someone's parents sticking around the 3 or so future basics. It's more a time for those 3 to bond rather than have one's family there too. But, if you want a better answer, when you receive information, call the AOG and ask them about it. They would be the best to answer that. Then, it's also at the discretion of the sponsors themselves.

i staid with only one other cadet, but the father and his three kids had another family over, so i ate dinner with about 4 other basics. it was a great time to meet people and share stories about why you came/what you think its going to be like

It was great for me because I sort of got sick the night before (nerves, altitude, homesickness... all 3...) and I was able to get medecine and chill out much more than if I were at a hotel. I stayed with a guy from the first class of RTBs and he told some really motivating stories. Definitely reccomend it.
