B.S. in accounting: What does an A.S. in general science/math do for me?

I know this is a weird question, but I will have my B.S. in accounting May 2019. In order to get my CPA license I need 150 total credits, so I have been thinking about using those extra credits to get my A.S. in general science/math because I only need about 6 classes to finish it- 2 PHY, 2 CHE, 1 MAT, 1 Bio. I was always interested in physics/Chemistry and was hoping that my background in accounting, coupled with an A.S. in science, would make me marketable to engineering/science based companies.

Not really. Earn the A.S. because you enjoy the classes and for your own sense of accomplishment.

From a career standpoint, taking more accounting classes would be the better option, especially master level classes, even if you don’t complete the masters. Check with your accounting adviser at school, I’m sure they can tell you want options are most popular with students in their program.

Hello Gator,
I will get my MBA, regardless.

If you go into a Masters program, after earning your BS in Accounting, that should meet the 150 credit requirement If you can afford it, earning a CPA and masters is the best of both worlds.

Good Luck!.

However, it may be that 30 credits of community college courses are less expensive than an MBA program if the OP does not have much money now and needs to get to 150 credits as soon as possible for the CPA prerequisite.

Bingo!

Many employers have tuition reimbursement for the MBA and community college is a super cheap way to get to 150. I figured instead of taking random classes just to fill the requirement I could get the A.S. I was hoping I would get some marketability out of it, too.
