@momma2a I totally get your confusion on knowing what is right… Unfortunately everything is right and nothing is! MT is a crap shoot for college and that’s all there is to it. Don’t think that you have to have a big school in a big city to be successful or make connections. Some schools have partnerships with regional theatres that would provide some connections …etc
My D initially wanted in NYC for college. Star struck and all that… " I need to be there where everything is…" Yada yada… Now… With senior year looming and the thought of just leaving home & going SOMEWHERE getting more real, she has admitted that being a freshman in college is going to be a huge adjustment ( read : I am an only child who has barely ironed a shirt or used a debit card…) and is looking at southern schools, Ohio etc and the only school even near NYC on her list is Wagner. She even admitted that it might be too overwhelming to live there with all that added expense and craziness & adjust to leaving home too.
Plus if the program you’re talking about offers what she wants, has a decent rep and is affordable well then, yes! Definitely good to avoid loan debt afterward … Makes it easier to get by after graduation!
Arizona State University MT program is a BM degree. We have students who double major within the music school and outside of the music school. Depending on the double major, it’s often possible to graduate within 4 years.
