BA Theatre to MFA acting

Do MFA acting programs generally like a student who had a BA in theatre (and double major in something else) or a BFA in acting?

The better MFA programs admit many students without a background in acting at all, or adults who have been working and are returning to grad school for a specific reason that the school has to offer.

The audition is really all that matters; if they see something they like in the room.

I agree with the above posters that from the MFA’s standpoint - it’s all about what happens at the audition. As I understand it, there might be more people with a BA in theater who are looking for deeper, more intense training, while those from a BFA background (esp those that are more conservatory styled) might already feel they have gotten that

I agree with everyone above. The program I worked for accepted MFA Acting students from all backgrounds - right out of a BFA, from a BA after a few years out, students in their 30s who did not major in theater in undergrad at all. Life experience goes a long way.

It’s about the audition, and sometimes as a secondary factor, building a class that complements each other.
