I have interviewed and hired people. I've never really cared about whether it was a BA or BS. What was more important was skills and the college major. In your case comp sci is more important than whether it was a BA or a BS.

Getting a BA/MA in 4.5 years is pretty attractive.

I think the only difference in the eyes of any employer or graduate school is that someone with a BA has more of a well-rounded education, as opposed to a BS, which offers more of a scientific one.

meh, it is what you make it and nothing more. If you get a BA in CS and take the toughest classes and supplement your skills with lots of theory and math (not usually as built in the BA curric as the BS) then you will be just fine. A CS professor of mine once told me that the companies that would care about the difference are the kind that you wouldn't want to work for anyways.

ehiunno, your prof is correct. If a potential employer is splitting hairs about BA or BS, it's an indication of what the culture and the organization is like and they are likely to split hairs about other issues as well. That would definitely be a warning sign to stay away.

The Difference Between the 2 is not to great. If you aren't good at5 pure science, then go for the BA. If you can manage Basic Geology or geography, take the 2 semesters of them and get the BS.
