Can a Bachelor's in Communication get the Alternative Teacher Certification? I am interested in elementary and high school...does this make a difference? The certification takes 2 years but I am not sure if a Communication major can get the certification or is it only for those math, science, english majors? Also, if the certification takes two years, wouldn't it make just as much sense to go for a Master's in Teaching? (especially because teachers are required to get a Masters anyways?) My school isn't providing much info on all this so I am reaching out to see if someone here can give me a hand instead.

They can (as far as I know) but it’s a bit unlikely. Alternative certification is usually for a hard to fill subject like Chinese or Physics or Calc. There’s a lot of English teachers out there.

I’m doing that, getting my teacher certification and a bachelors in comm (at the same time). may or may not go onto get masters.
