Hi,
This past year I took the act 3 times and obtained a 20. I have given up. But I have this amzing transcript as I have a GPa of 3.73 which consist of 40 college credits by the end of this semester. I got in to the state university at the start of my junior year. I do full time and still manage to keep up with volunteer hours in my local library by helping kids to read but also have my own classes where I teach them various arts and crafts. Besides other volunteer hours I also have been in cross country for 4 years and track for 2 years. I'm a mexican-AMerican senior and I went to college I would be the first of my family to attend college. I'm aware the act tests college preparedness, yet I have succeeded in my college classes. So do I have great chances to go to a good college that might take act scores ranging from 24 to 26 or better yet?

I seriously suggest taking the SAT. Have you taken other standardized tests?

You should consider taking the SAT. Some are better at one test than the other; maybe you are better at taking the SAT. I have a friend who got a 19 and then took it again and got a 20 and she’s given up taking any more standardized tests-- don’t give up !!!

First, you can get a good education at virtually any college - most of that is up to the student. Second, what is your home state and what can your family afford? It does little good to get into a school you can’t afford to attend. There are test optional schools but those tend to be more expensive.
Some people have different abilities for different standardized tests. One of my friends got a 34 on the ACT but only, like, a 1960 on the SAT.

I agree that taking the sat would be something you should try.

Take the SAT!

The ACT is just a speedreading test.If you’re good at other things but can’t read super fast, it’s probably not the right test for you.

Definetly take the SAT because a lot of people are bad at one and good at the other.
So if you were bad at the ACT, there is a good possibility that you would do better on the SAT or vice versa! Anyways, its worth a shot right?

Yup, take the SAT. It’s worth a shot, and if you can get a fee waiver you won’t have to pay, so you might as well try. A lot of people do way better on the SATs because of the different formatting and content.
Good luck! :D

The ACT is a bullcrap test, it’s a shame I live in the Midwest where the ACT is more prevalent. SAT is so much better. At least for me. I suggest taking the SAT, and not even sending your ACT scores.

Thank you for replying guys!!
Unfortunately I have taken the sat and that actually went worse. :(((

I live in Minnesota and my parents barely make money for me to attend community college. Which I won’t attend since I basically will have two year of college done by the end of may 2013.(almost done with General lib requirement and a year ahead in my desired major in speech, language and hearing science. ) I even got an invitation to apply to Yale, yet I doubt once they know my act score will they will want me. And it’s kinda hard not to give up as my act scores ruin my chances to better scholarships and schools.
:(

I believe there are some schools on this list where you would get some merit $. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/1348012-automatic-full-tuition-full-ride-scholarships.html

Have you considered taking a prep course?
It may be a good investment

Don’t get hung up on Yale. Yale sends out thousands of those letters to students. It is their way of getting people to apply which drives down their acceptance percentage (currently <10%) and drives up their college rankings. If you look at their Common Data Set ([Common Data Set (CDS) | Office of Institutional Research](Common Data Set | Office of Institutional Research)) 97% of accepted students are in the top 10% of their class and the ACT 25%ile for students is 31. Look for affordable realistic options, particularly in-state. What does your HS GC recommend?
