I'm writing my common app essay abut why I dislike writing/find it challenging, but will conclude with what I've learned from my experiences with writing: persistence, self-reliance, other things.

My writing record in school is strong (A+ in AP Language in comp)

I have 2380 on SAT, but got 8,7,8 on the essays the three times I took the test.

Will the admissions counselors think I'm bad at writing/lazy/etc?

If you say you’re bad at writing, then OF COURSE the adcoms will think you’re bad at it!!! Or, find it ironic that your essay is meta. Anyway, college is going to have a TON of writing even in the sciences where they make you write 15 page lab reports… definitely choose a better topic, something not so negative like ‘why i dislike <insert fact="" of="" life="" here="">’</insert>

I disagree with the above comment. If you could make it about how you disliked writing (past tense) but then somehow learned from your struggles the importance of it AND THEN also demonstrated how good your writing is, it could be extremely unique and show good personal characteristics. But, if you’re merely going to complain about writing as it is now, I would recommend against it. Make it more of a growth and change essay.

unless you essay is jaw droppingly great, an essay about bad writing or disliking writing is going to sound whiney and draw attention to a soft but not really bad area. 8 is not a great score, but is decently competent writing ability. Just leave it at that and pick a topic that will let you shine.
