I had a 2.0 in high school for some certain reasons, which I have a good explanation for. At community college I have approximately a 3.7 in 70 semester hours where I have taken Calc I and II, Physics w/lab, Chemistry w/lab, Elementary German I and II, Intermediate German I and II, and nearly all of the general education requirements I attend the University of Miami where I pulled a 3.3 with 15 semester hours for the one semester I was there. However, I had to leave due to something personal and the dean as well as the president said they are going to be writing me outstanding letters of recommendations to whatever school I wish to attend. I also have superior extracurricular activities, leadership positions held, president of clubs, and other significant letters of recommendations from professors and such. Do you think they will be willing to overlook my poor high school performance, and do you think I have a good shot for admission assuming I have good essays, etc? I have never had less than a B in college.

As with all extraordinary cases like yours, it is very had to tell esp. not knowing what your circumsntaces were, but you should definitely apply as there have been many successful cases like yours. Plus, a letter from Shalala should help out a lot.

are u sure they consider circumstances like mine with bad grades? i've heard they do, but ive also heard that they don't really care about that and generally only take applicants with the strongest academics

????????????????

I think they will look at your college record more because you are a candidate for transfer, not freshman admission. There is a point where high school doesn't matter anymore, and I think you're coming into that now since you have proven yourself at college.

hey longhorn111,

I am transferring to Georgetown from a CC for fall 2008. Are you planning on transferring as a junior? I don't know if Gtown accepts senior transfers (for one thing, if you want to get a degree at gtown, you must stay for at least 2 years). But I do agree with tlesc01, if you do transfer as a junior, your college record will have more weight than your high school record. Please PM me if you have more questions.

yes as a junior...thanks for the replies..what are ur stats? are u coming from a 2 yr or 4 yr?

I am transferring from a 2 year (montgomery college) to a 4-year (Georgetown University)

ahh, if you want my stats, just search tenniscostaleez on college confidential...it'll be there somewhere

-its a good thing you have already taken those foreign language classes, I have to take 2 years of a language when I get to Georgetown in order to graduate

ouch, through intermediate 2?
