Bad karma to have school Tshirt ready for decision day?

worrywart-
Good luck. When does he hear?

Thanks, Environmentalist. Not for awhile yet. It has only gotten tough since all his friends have received their EDs, for better or worse.

Go buy him a Superman shirt, or something silly that he can enjoy wearing while he waits. A great shirt to wear the first day back after break might help cut the tension.

Environmentalist: Great idea!

worrywart: No shirt! Watch "My Name is Earl" to cut the tension, Karma is King.

Good Luck to your son.

We decided it was better to wait, and told D that when and if she got accepted to her 1st choice school, we would make a special trip to the bookstore to buy her a sweatshirt. She had collected several free t-shirts from some of the other schools she applied to - but never bought anything. Well, yesterday we took a drive into Boston and got her that sweatshirt as promised at the Emerson College bookstore. I guess its kind of superstitious, but oh well - LOL!

congrats to allie

Son has applied to Univ of Mich, which has rolling admission. We live 50 miles from there. We can buy U of Mich stuff in any store, including gas stations! Half the town owns U of Mich gear (the other half owns Michigan State!). We, however, own nothing Maize and Blue. And we won't until that acceptance letter arrives. I wanted to get a U of M coffee mugs for a couple of favorite Uncles, and Onesies for a couple of the next generation for Christmas. But not until the acceptance letter has arrived. I am not jinxing this. We are not messing with karma. And we are not counting our chickens before they hatch.

How does Son feel about all of this? He doesn't care -- he's an Ohio State fan!

P.S. Just asked Son about kids wearing t-shirts after they have decided on a college, and he has no idea. 99% of the kids that go to college either go to the local community college, or one of half a dozen Michigan colleges, all of which seem to have rolling admission. So there are really no EA/ED decisions, and no one waiting until April 1.

i got sweatpants at my first -choice school before applying ED and told myself i'd wear them even if i got rejected because i'd still love the school and what it stood for. but now that im deferred, im hesitant to wear it out, especially since people always ask if youre going to the school you wear gear from at my HS. maybe once the pain has dulled, i'll break it out, though.

Peggy- I can relate to "everyone wears, and you can get it everywhere"- only in Wisconsin it's UW red (I'm an alumnus and will call it red, not cardinal...), I think more people in the northeast apply to many private schools with ED etc type admissions. In this part of the state you see too much green and gold Packers gear, I notice the difference elsewhere in the state. We also get (former) UPers wearing Michigan gear and Minnesota gear due to reciprocity... Freshman son is acquiring UW gear to replace his HS running shirts and sweatshirts. He wore his HS class T-shirt with its hundreds of names on move in day for the dorms last fall. I think the shirts with a HS tie-in help people know who to check with for rides home...don't forget to have your HS logo gear for college!

anyone know where to get UNC stuff? we're in NY and our steve and barry's doesnt have anything! the guy was like uh...UNC...hmm...what's that? im like ur KIDDING right? lol

and i dont wanna order offline.... any ideas on where to get a tee before heading for a campus visit? id like to have something carolina to wear off the airplane...hehe.

I have ordered from this store online, but there is a phone number listed if you would like to call.

For me, I purchased a shirt or sweatshirt or something from each college I visited and applied to. I was waitlisted at my first choice college (as well as several others). On May 1st, we were to wear the attire of the college we had chosen to attend. While I was still waitlisted, I chose to wear Duke's sweatshirt over my USC t-shirt (where I was enrolled). On May 3rd I was admitted at Duke. I like to say it's because I kept the faith.

When I visited my first choice school, I tried to talk my mom into buying me a hoodie. She said no, that I'd just have to wait until I got my ED letter.

I'm definitly happy that I didn't get that hoodie, since I got rejected. That $50 sweatshirt likely would have been shredded.

On the topic of kids wearing gear from the college that they got into... I just think it's awkward. The day after my rejection I saw a girl that I knew wearing a hoodie from that school and it just made me sad all over again. Same thing for a friend of mine that was deferred- I think that seeing a few t-shirts from that school only made her even more upset.

screw the t-shirt, i'm going to drape my #1 school's flag around me if i get in

ok, this is going to make someone angry, i just know it...

but if you are accepted into some OK school (BY CC STANDARDS, that's my disclaimer) such as BC, then by all means support your school spirit by wearing apparels the day of acceptance. but if you got into a prestigious place like HYPSM, hold on that shirt and save it till graduation time or something. otherwise people will think of you as snobby and such

Thanks to all who posted. Found out today that the t-shirt did not bring bad luck. Happy ending chez nous!

Congrats, Worrywart & Son!

I appreciate that, lspf72! What's your connection with Tufts? (I'm also a Tufts parent who has seen you post on those threads.)

my D avoided wearing her sweatshirts for her accepted schools until end of Jan, so the sting of rejections and waitlists would have passed pretty much

She wore it to school and she discovered 3 more kids that may be going, and she likes them, so it created a new connection

She also wears a sweatshirt she found in the lost and found (been there a year)

And congrats

I refused to buy anything from the colleges I visited for fear of jinxing it. The closest I got was an orange mug that my dad bought at Small World Coffee in Princeton with the name, logo, and "Princeton" (the town, not the university!) on it in black. I use it for my tea sometimes, but it always puts me in a thoughtful, bittersweet sort of mood, and I worry about what would happen if I broke it, since there's obviously a correlation. :o

I swear, I'm not usually this neurotic.
