I need 7k for this year, that is including the help from the Stafford loans.

First and highest priority: find a job. (You will improve your chances at qualifying for extra loans if you have an income… as well as generated some cash toward college)

If you need 7K for the whole year and that number includes Stafford loans, you still need $1500 or $750 per semester. The first $750 is likely not due til late July or August so you have time to get it together. Did you apply for local scholarships? Do you have a job or any savings bonds? Are you expecting graduation gifts? Is there an adult with a job who would cosign a small loan for you?

My instinct is that whatever your parents are upset about is a big deal to them even if it seems like nothing to you. But parents have a sometimes uncanny way of seeing the next thing coming, while kids are usually better at living in the moment. Better to spend some time thinking about what they’re trying to teach you and why (bet it’s not because there’s nothing else they’d rather be doing), Then, try to repair the relationship rather than look for ways to circumvent/exist without them. It’s not productive, financially or emotionally, and you’ll feel better when things are on an even keel.

All my relatives are in germany and retired or living from paycheck to paycheck. And to sk8termom, its just the concept of him dangling my tuition funds over me, when I go to college I want to worry about myself and my studies, not trying to appease my dad so he will pay my tuition. And yes I applied to local scholarships, and currently am trying to apply to as many scholarships on fastweb as possible. I am looking for a summer job, either at walmart working night shifts, which pay 10.50 an hour and 11.50 for sundays and 14.50 for holidays. Either that or trying to get a job waiting tables at a restaurant.

Well, $750 isn’t much leverage for him! Anyway, you could always contact your FA office and see if they have any small grants left. I do think you’ll be able to raise that by the time tuition is due, perhaps another adult you know would cosign if necessary once you have steady employment…good luck!

Thanks, I’m applying for lots of scholarships at the moment in hope to gain more money.
