hey..im trying to come up with something creative for my why swarthmore, and i was thinking about doing it about how my family/friends never really heard of the school and when i say its a small liberal arts school they don't want me to go there and say i wouldnt fit in, but despite that i still want to go...do you guys think that would be stupid/confusing or should i go for it?

I don't know....I don't think it is a good idea to remind them that people don't know about Swat. They are looking for fit and if you are so uncomfortable applying, there thinking would be why admit her?

I guess it could work... but most likely it's no a great idea. You could make it a conversation where your parents are skeptical at first, and you convince them that it's a great place for you (and really focus on you speaking and what you love about it) and use that to show your enthusiasm. And at the end make your parents be like hmm... maybe this is the perfect school for you. Actually that could work. In the end the overall tone should suggest people liking the school not a sense of disapproval.

hmm yea, thanks for the input guys..i'm liking your idea marlgirl, im gonna try writing an essay and see how it turns out

Don't try to outthink the question. Just sit down with a piece of paper and jot down the reasons that you want to go to Swarthmore. What do you like about it? What interaction have you had with Swat people?

I don't think you necessarily have to be "creative" with this answer. I do think the answer needs to show that you understand some aspect of what makes Swat tick and how you would fit into that.

The real purpose of this question is to identify applicants who have taken the time to understand the college and those who the adcoms can picture as a Swattie.
