Balancing Fraternity Life and Academics

I'm an incoming freshman and I really want to pledge fall semester, but I'm worried I won't have enough time to really participate in the pledge process, do work study (10 hours per week) and keep my grades up at the same time. Can anyone tell me if I'm in over my head or discuss their experience balancing Greek life with academics and other extracurriculars?

It is doable. I was able to balance pledging as well as a very demanding extracurricular schedule (close to 20hrs a week) with academics. You may not get as much sleep as you would like, but you’ll definitely learn how to manage your time.

If you have any questions about fraternities(or anything at Cal, really), let me know!

A lot of it depends on your major and the classes you intend to take. If you think the courseload is too heavy for the activities you want to participate in such as pledging, drop some classes.

Unfortunately, for most majors the pre-reqs are fairly tough so you’ll have to learn how to manage your time well.
