I am in search of some answers pertaining to the Ball State Architecture program. I'll give as much background information as I can in order to give you the information needed to access and answer my questions in the best way possible. I know application acceptance all depends on the amount of individuals who apply, and the competition of applicants in that specific year, but please try your best to answer the questions as thoroughly as possible.

I am currently an undergraduate student, and see myself as that "guy" who would do just about anything to receive an acceptance letter from the architecture program at Ball State University. My current cumulative GPA is nothing to brag about, but feel my portfolio may be able to compensate for my struggling GPA. So first, does anyone know if Ball State tends to look more at the GPA, or the overall strength of the applicants portfolio.

Some background information....I put absolutely no effort into high school, for this reason I was forced to attend Ivy Tech Community College. I put absolutely no effort into college, and entered a field I had no interest or passion in, and for that reason, my cumulative GPA is lacking. I spent the first three semesters of college in the "Business" field. I absolutely hated it, and wasn't interested in it at all. I ended up having a 1.143 GPA to show for those three semesters. I finally decided to get into a more creative and artist field, because art has always been my passion. To make a long story short, I decided on "Architecture" and ever since, college is no longer a hassle, it's something I look forward too. I have now completed 4 semesters of college, three semesters in "Business", and one semester in "Design". In my last semester, I received a 4.0 GPA. I wish I could say it wasn't from Ivy Tech, but it is. Either way, it's a 4.0. This has raised my GPA significantly, but not to where I need it to be. My cumulative GPA is now a 2.18.

How will my application be judged? The Ball State Architecture website expresses that transfer students are usually most competitive with a 3.0 or above and my GPA falls short of that. I do believe I have an excellent portfolio though. My question is, with an excellent portfolio, and a 2.18 cumulative GPA, and them seeing that my last semester of college, I received a 4.0 GPA, will I have any chance of being accepted?

My main goal is to at least be accepted into Ball State University and start taking classes as soon as possible. I realize that I may get accepted into the school, but I may be rejected from the architecture program. I would then assume I could take classes at Ball State and raise my GPA, and then re-apply? I don't mind this, but I would still like to know my chances of getting into the architecture program. I have so much ambition, now that I finally know what I want to do, that I just want to get started right away!

Thank you for your time. I hope I've presented enough information to assist you in giving the most accurate answers possibles. Thanks again!
