Ballet Dancers?

Does anyone know what school's have good ballet programs? I'd really like to double major in english and dance, but i don't know what schools offer this. Most of the ones I've seen offer modern or African, but not a lot of ballet.

I know Indiana, Utah, and Butler are the best schools for ballet, but i'm looking for something a little more prestigious academic wise...

Look into Barnard, Skidmore, Sarah Lawrence, Bennington, Goucher, Smith, Conn College, U of Arizona, SUNY Purchase, University of Oklahoma, Arizona State.

UC-Irvine. There probably isn't another U.S. college that's comparable. Both the Dance and English departments are outstanding. There isn't a dance minor, but about 15 percent of the dance majors double major.

The Dance Dept. offers a complete program with five levels of ballet--three at the advanced level--and a conservatory-like BFA program designed for students who wish to prepare for careers in performance or choreography. There are specialty classes including pointe, mens ballet, partnering, and pilates and an exchange program with the Paris Conservatory

The English Dept. is especially strong in literary criticism and theory and in creative writing. The graduate program in literary criticism s considered one of the two best in the country and the creative writing MFA is among the top five or six.

The Drama Dept., ranked in the top ten, is a bonus.

Vassar does not have a Dance Major but they do have an excellent Ballet program. The Department of Dance is chaired by a Jeanne Czula a former ballet dancer and next year John Meehan the former Director of ABT II will be directing Vassar Repetory Dance Theater. You can take the upper level ballet classes for credit for up to 4 semesters. Of course the English Department is also one of their most highly regarded. Vassar also has an extremely open curriculum.

Duke also has quite a strong dance program and is very highly ranked academically.
Barnard (already mentioned) is a good choice too as it affiliates with Columbia where students can cross-register for classes. The schools are physically across the street from one another.

Stanford has an excellent dance program too, at least they used to. We knew a brilliant young ballerina who could have danced professionally (who also was an engineer) who chose Stanford and felt the offerings for her in ballet were plentiful.
