Band Company

My son tells me that, yes, he would choose to be in Band Co again. Only because he loves his drums. I do not believe that the Drumline has any additional practices. There really isn't enough time for the Band to become truely musically proficient by some standards, but they present really well.
There is definitely some pushing and pulling for the time of the Mids between the Coaches vs. the Band vs Academic requirements. He did not miss many Baseball activities due to band (including practices) He missed most due to sea year. After 4 months at sea, he had 2 days to work out before the Baseball team headed to Florida for Spring Games. We have gone up to KP to watch some BBall games and been informed that he had special exemption from some band activities because of Baseball. I do not know how things are prioritized.
Because of the academic load, there is very little dead time to participate in lots of extracurricular activities, but you can have fun and do the things you enjoy.
Sports will NOT keep you in the Academy. You may decide to give up all team activities to concentrate on schoolwork. After all, that is why you are there. In some cases, band ability can be a tiebreaker for the Admissions committee attempting to differentiate between equally qualified candidates.
Seniors (1st Classmen) seem to have the most time stress because of License exam preparation. I have heard them comment wi****lly about "all of the extra time they had as plebes".
Don't sweat the details so much. You will adapt and find your way. ;>)

I have heard them comment wi****lly about "all of the extra time they had as plebes".

???? wi****lly???? (with fond remberance)

it really isnt that big of a deal. you will hear from most people that it sucks. if you like playing your instrument though, it shouldnt matter

The Company Commander for Band Co is also the Head Coach of the Baseball Team.

I've been in Band all of highschool and I enjoy playing my trumpet. That said, I am not the best and I am not one to brag about my membership in the band. I do like the camaraderie developed within the badn though. Is the Band Co. very close-knit? Would the experience be the same for these Midshipmen as compared to the other companies? And is Indoc the same? Thank you-John

is the band Company CO the Drum Major also?

The drum major is a MIDN. You can do it if you'd like, you'll have the chance. The company is close knit kind of cause it is much smaller then most companies, and it seems like kids from other companies hate the kids in band co.

why do the others hate them?
