Hey guys, so I’m planning on applying for this but I heard it’s nearly impossible to get into with an acceptance rate harder than Harvard. I don’t know if I have enough leadership experience and service hours to get in to this but I wanted to make a thread for everyone who’s applying for 2018. What have you guys heard about the competition? Do you know if there will be interviews? I’m from the San Francisco bay area, has anyone heard anything about the competitiveness of the markets around here?
Also, if anyone has tips on what they look for in the application (like is it the essays, the letter of recs, or service hours that matter the most), please do send advice!
From what I’ve seen from past years’ threads, the most important thing is to be yourself in the essay questions. Don’t try to impress the readers, just give honest and accurate descriptions of your commitment to the community.
Yeah 3-4% acceptance rate is pretty scary but I am really excited for this, I hope I get in. Just looking at some of the videos from the webpage and youtube and looked amazing. But I heard from other discussion posts that some people do have interviews it depends on your area I guess. Even though I don’t have much hours I hope the little 1000 character essays help me in some way.
Also I am from San Bernardino, CA
According to this thread from last year, one applicant was notified on April 4th and another on April 30th. So I would say sometime in April depending on your particular geographic market.
I finished my application a few weeks ago. Did anyone apply from the the D.C area market? I’m not so sure about my grades(3.7 unweighted) but I do have over 1000 hours so hopefully I get in. It seems SO exciting!!
From what i understand, this program selects students per market, which is defined on their website (I think it was also in the application). Some markets could just be a city (like the NYC market), a county, or a whole state (like our NJ market). It really depends on the region
Wow, so there are only five people who get chosen from the entire state of NJ? I thought that it was by county, like 5 people from morris, five from sussex county, etc
Hey everyone I’m from the “NYC market” and I received an email saying I’ll be having a telephone interview for the BofA program. Does anyone know how many people receive interviews, or does anyone have tips for it?
Has anyone got an interview request for san jose/santa clara/silicon valley? I haven’t gotten any but I have an internship offer (for breakthrough) that I need to accept or deny by mid march so I don’t know what to do.
