Hey everyone, I was just accepted as a Dual-Degree applicant to the Bienen School of Music and McCormick School of Engineering. My question, which residence halls are the most convenient for me to get between classes between the engineering and music school.
Second, which banks/ATMs are on campus or near campus. I don’t have US Bank back home, so I need other options.
There really isn’t anywhere close to both Tech and the music buildings. East/West Fairchild maybe (CRC/ISRC), or Hinman, are close to the music buildings, but are 10ish minutes from Tech. North dorms are closer to Tech, which is more important IMO; just about everything is far (relatively speaking) from the music buildings.
tl;dr: doesn’t matter.
I think that the best buildings if you really care about being close would be ISRC and CRC which are close to the music buildings, or Sargeant which is close to Tech. Honestly though, pick a dorm that you like. Do you want a dining hall? Do you want full hall style, or open suites (essentially a bathroom per 8-10 students)? Do you want all freshman, or maybe a residence college? Those are vastly more important than location, especially when you’ll be on both sides of campus.
US Bank is the only option on campus, and that’s what I use so I can’t really speak to other ones. There are no other ATMs on campus either, although I guess you could try and find what banks might let you use US Bank ATMs for free.
Engineering and music classes are going to be on pretty much opposite sides of campus, and housing is located on either end. So I’d say just pick whether you’re feeling a north or south campus vibe, and pick housing based on that.
In terms of banks, US Bank is the only one on campus, but I know there’s PNC, Chase, and Fifth Third just a few blocks from campus.
There’s also a Citibank a few blocks from campus. BTW, when we say “a few blocks,” we mean “a few blocks from south campus.” The southern part of campus bridges to downtown Evanston, which is where you’ll have dining, shopping, banks, etc.
