Anyone know of any good retail banks near North Campus of OSU, so that I can open an account…
Huntington is the official bank of the university. If you open an account there, you can tie your student ID to it. Not fatal if you don’t.
I second Huntington. They are one of the best around (well, I think they’re THE best, but that’s because I use them!). But yes, you can tie your BuckID into your account, AND they have Buckeye Banking, which means your kid can get an OSU debit card!
All kidding aside, the asterisk free checking is pretty awesome. And they have a 24 hour grace period for overdrafts if you have a child who doesn’t pay close attention to what’s left before spending! If you transfer money within 24 hours, there is no overdraft charge.
If you don’t want to go the regional bank route, there is a Chase nearby as well.
@bucks724 : @saillakeerie : Huntington sounds interesting, though I don’t know whether they can handle transactions from international banks. Chase might also work. However, I saw a Fifth Third Bank branch very close to my residential house. (Houston House, which is at 8 mins walking distance from a Fifth Third Branch). Is using Fith Third Bank recommendable? Thank you for your answers…
What types of international transactions are you talking about? There are multiple banks which could work on/around campus. Any should work. You can use debit card. You can also load cash onto your OSU ID.
Fifth Third is a regional bank as well. So any issues you would have concerning international banking and Huntington, you’re likely to have the same issues with Fifth Third. I would think a quick call would answer any questions you may have. Huntington’s toll free number is 1.800.480.2265. Chase is a nationwide bank, but I would think any of the can handle international transactions. HTH
@saillakeerie : Like transferring money from accounts in an foreign bank…that kind of transactions…do you think Huntington can handle that?
@bucks724 : Can you provide me with Huntington’s email address where I can ask them my queries…
Thanks for your information
You can transfer money internationally using the Swift system. I would expect Huntington to be a part of that. But you should verify with them. They are buying FirstMerit (expected to close this month I believe) which will increase the size of the bank.
You can go to Huntington . com and they have a live chat feature. You can ask them there. I would assume that this is akin to a wire transfer and that the answer would be yes. Doesn’t hurt to double check though.
@bucks724: Couldn’t find this live chat feature in their website. Can you tell me the way to open that? Thanks
@saillakeerie : Thank you
Click on Customer Service in the top right and then scroll down to Contact Us at the bottom. I don’t see a Live Chat feature but it’s possible that the feature is only visible when they have agents available to chat which might only be during normal business hours (8-5 EST) Mon - Friday. But they have a phone number that can be called 24 x7.
