What banks or ATM’s are on or near campus?
A Wells Fargo Branch is immediately north of campus. Chase, PNC, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, SunTrust, Georgia United Credit Union ATM’s are in the Student Center.
So what is the usual strategy for parents. Set up a joint account at one of these banks?
I have a joint account with my DD because it allows me to electronically transfer funds (like a monthly allowance) innto her account. I do not have an debit card for her account or really look at what she spends. I just do it for the convenience of online banking and being able to transfer money from my account to her account at the same bank. There are banks at Tech Square and in the midtown area which have corresponding ATM’s in the student center. Banking has not been an issue for my D while at Tech. I did load my account onto her bursar’s account so I could electronically pay her student bills.
I have a joint checking and savings account with DS. I can put money in his accounts but he can’t pull money from me. I no longer put spending money in his account since he has co-op earnings. But when I did I used to transfer money over once a month. I don’t think he has ever had any problems finding an ATM. I do have a bursar parent pay account to pay housing. Make sure and check the balance close to the date tuition is due just in case something has been added on. For example if they add a class the first week of classes that has a fee like Chemistry it shows up when they add the class. So if you already paid the bill before they added a class with a fee then there would be a balance that you might not know about.
