Bard College offers new option for admission- 4 2500 word Research Papers

<p>“It’s kind of declaring war on the whole rigmarole of college admissions and the failure to foreground the curriculum and learning,” Leon Botstein in today's New York Times article: <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2013/09/29/nyregion/didnt-ace-sat-just-design-microbe-transplant-research.html?smid=pl-share%5B/url%5D"&gt;http://www.nytimes.com/2013/09/29/nyregion/didnt-ace-sat-just-design-microbe-transplant-research.html?smid=pl-share&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p>

<p>"You just need to be smart, curious and motivated, and prove it with words — 10,000 words, in the form of four, 2,500-word research papers."</p>

<p>They're still allowing the regular routes for admission, including their Immediate Decision Plan - but this is a new route this fall - prove you can do the work, and the rest is moot.</p>

<p>"Dr. Botstein said he is not just out to change admissions at Bard, but to “start a debate about the kind of dishonesty that prevails” in college admissions."</p>

<p>Seems to me College Confidential is a good place for that debate.</p>
