Bard named one of 15 hottest colleges of the decade

The Daily Beast has a nice post on fifteen schools that have really transformed themselves in the past decade. Bard is one of them:

[The Decade’s 15 Hottest Colleges - The Daily Beast](http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2009-12-13/the-decades-hottest-schools/)

I think the article meant that perceptions of the applicants have changed, not the schools themselves, or am I wrong? The world is discovering that Bard is a fascinating place!

Well I think there’s a little of both going on. Clearly there has been strong institutional momentum for the entirety of Leon Botstein’s tenure as president. However, I believe many of Bard’s initiatives have begun to bear fruit in the past decade, and we’re getting noticed more and more often.

There is a lag time between transformations in the student body and wider recognition. And I think with regards to Bard there’s this sense that we’re on the move, so to speak, and that we’re pursuing a lot of new and innovative initiatives that force people to rethink what the college once was.
