Bard vs Hampshire

My Dad is making me apply to one or both of these schools, which is funny considering how conservative he is. But that is besides the point. The point is, I need to make a decision as to which of these two I should apply to. I visited both schools last summer. I like Hampshire's location better, but I like that Bard has more academic structure. So, what are the differences between Bard and Hampshire, especially with regards to the student body, social scene, and prevalence/acceptance of drug use?

Thanks!

buuuuuuuummpppp.

please? I have to apply to one of these, but didn’t fall in love with either, and my schools college counseling office needs my list. Help!

if you didn’t fall in love with either, and there is no clear choice, what difference does it make which one you pick? write each name on a piece of paper, crumble the paper up, and shake the crumbled papers in a trash can or hat, and pick one out with your eyes closed. apply to that school.
or be a gambler, and apply to a school you’ve never visited, maybe pitzer, maybe new college of florida?

agree with liek…or why not apply to both schools and if you get accepted to them you’ll have until next May to decide which one to attend? But, I don’t know enough about either school to comment on them.
Have you looked at [Colleges That Change Lives](http://www.ctcl.org/)

One of the advantages to Hampshire is that it is part of a consortium. Many more courses would be available than at Bard.

I wouldn’t necessarily say that more courses is an advantage. I’m overwhelmed by the amount of courses that are offered at Bard semester as it is. Personally, more courses would make me more overwhelmed and make it harder for me to make a decision as to what class I want to take/focus on what I want to study. There are, however, people who would benefit from more courses being available, but I wouldn’t go ahead and say it’s a total advantage.

It would be helpful to know WHY your Dad is making you apply to one of these colleges. What is it about Bard and Hampshire that makes it so imperative that you apply if you don’t “love” them? Are you considering any other colleges?

I would avoid either if at all possible unless you are attracted to that type of environment.

I don’t want to apply to both because I’m stressed enough as it is. And picking a name out of a hat makes me antsy. I’m also not looking to add more schools to my list, besides one of these two. I have to apply to one because HE loves them. We visited them over the summer. It’s frustrating because neither school is within our price range. Of course I’m applying elsewhere (UO, UBC, UCB, UCD, UCSC, UCSB, Santa Clara, Goucher, Lewis & Clark, American, UPS, Smith [my one silly dream reach, but I’m not sure if it is stupid to apply because they won’t give me money]), but I have to appease him with one of these. To be honest, I did like Bard except for its location and price tag. I didn’t fall in love with it, but I liked it. I guess I just answered my own question.
