Hello, I know Barnard is affiliated with Columbia University, but do they receive the same diploma from Columbia university? I know Barnard students can cross-register classes on both campuses and share all the resources with Columbia, but do they share the employment opportunities? And I feel like having a discussion for the topic already indicates that there must be some uncommon differences between these two. ; Don’t judge, share your opinions and knowledge.
- Students at Barnard receive a diploma from Columbia University (CU), as to students at Columbia College (CC), SEAS, and General Studies (GS) -- which are the other 3 colleges at CU which confer undergraduate degrees. There is a commencement ceremony each year which include all of the students from all CU students, both undergrad & grad. Each school has some control over the appearance of its own diploma -- for example, both Barnard and CC students get diplomas written in latin, but the SEAS and GS diplomas are in English. All degrees also reflect the name of the college or school the student has attended, along with a signature of the titular head of faculty from that school (dean or president) as well as the president of CU.
- Barnard has its own career office and events. Some but not all on campus recruiting events or job fairs are open to all students. Barnard students can apply for and be hired for work-study jobs at CC, and CC students can work at BC. My daughter said that the pay was better for the CC job she held, but that could have been related to the type of position more than the school -- that is, she was comparing an admin job at BC to a research job at CC. I'm not really sure what you mean by "employment opportunities" beyond that -- I think that for the most part, employment opportunities probably depend on a student's major, work experience, and class standing. It's NYC and jobs are not limited to campus jobs or campus listings. One of the best jobs my daughter had while at Barnard came from a craiglist listing posted by an adjunct professor at NYU.
Thanks calmon Anyone else?
well

You seem to want feedback on a questions that have been discussed on these forums over and over again – and I gave you the answers to the questions you asked-- so no one else is likely to post simply to repeat what I wrote.
Maybe you need to clarify what you are really asking about?
Yeah, I agree with all Calmom wrote. And this has been rehashed ad nauseum on here. And I am not sure what you mean about “uncommon differences between these two”. Do you mean Columbia UNIVERSITY and Barnard College (apples and oranges or maybe more apropos would be to say a basket of apples and one of the apples in it…)? Barnard College and Columbia College (two undergrad institutions under the Columbia University umbrella— with major differences between the two).
