I’ve heard about Barnard’s career placement being in the Top 5 as ranked by the Princeton Review, but I wasn’t able to find what makes it so great!

Could someone tell me what kinds of services the career office there has? Do most students find employment after graduation? And does the career office help students find summer employment, or is it mainly for graduating seniors and those seeking out work-study jobs?

I’m just a little bit worried about where I’ll “end up,” so to speak once I graduate. I’m looking at Barnard because of its all-around amazing academics and opportunities, but life after school is a pretty big deal for me. Thank you!

My daughter loved the career center – during her senior year she told me that she felt that she had gotten a more valuable education at the career center than the college itself. (And that was NOT to in any way impugn her excellent college education – it’s just that the career center was giving her real world skills). They had all sorts of workshops related to job prep and searching; there was a mentorship program that paired her with a Barnard alumna with a job in a field she was interested in. And yes, as far as I know, there were services available all 4 years.

Keep in mind that the value of the career center is that it helps you build the skills you need to find a job on your own. They do have job listings, but that’s just a starting point. My d. had jobs all the way through school and a great job starting at graduation, but I think that in general she found the jobs through independent resources, such as checking the web sites for organizations she was interested in working for, or directly reaching out to employers, or using various job listing web sites.

That sounds great! I like how Barnard seems to help you network a little bit. I hope to apply ED, but because of FA reasons, RD sounds better…I just love the school so much! If accepted I would love to take advantage of all of the opportunities available, and where better than the city?
Thank you for the information!
