ok… so i’m looking into where i wanna stay now…

ladies at barnard where do u recommend?

i see that 600, 616, 620, elliott and plimpton are off campus… are those nice?

where do most freshmen live? and what are the 4 columbia halls u can stay at… are those any good?

:) haha i just looked at the academic year calendar!
o i love being admitted haha!
we start on sep 29th!!!

First year resident students all have to live on the quad.

Sulz and Reid are first years only, Hewitt and Brooks have some floors first years, some floors sophs and up. Other than that, they looked pretty much the same to me.

Though in Sulz you have to deal with the Tower seniors glaring at you if you use the express elevator to go from the first floor to the third, so if you're going to do that, don't live there.

oh hi primefactor.. we meet again!

so all freshmen live on the quad? they can't live newhere else?

I've never heard otherwise (unless you're a commuter). In fact, they even relocated a few transfer students OFF the quad to put in Spring entering first years.

o right i see ! coool cool.
i'm really thinking of going to barnard. i still have 4 more schools to hear from.. but i don't even wanna noe nemore.. cus it'll just confuse me and tear me apart

Beware getting too excited about your first or last acceptances. It's all psychology at that point. Once you've heard from everyone, take some time to sit down and look over all of your offers with a clear head. When I got my transfer acceptances, I almost sent in a deposit to the first place I heard back from, I was so excited. And then when I heard from my last school, that most recent excitement of getting in was still clouding my mind (I could have ended up at Penn! shudder).

But congratulations on all of your good news! :)

did you hear from penn first?

i've already made pros and cons lists... im prettysure barnard is the one
the only place that is another option is brown..

Hello again, Primefactor! My d DID get accepted and we are still on cloud 9. We will be there this weekend (she is a dancer and we are going to the Dances at Miller perf Saturday night...also, she gets to do the accepted students day on Monday!

Hope you are well and all is going according to plan on your thesis...

Again, thanks for being such a wonderful mentor on these boards.

Huzzah!!! Congrats, I'm really glad to hear it. I'm going to be hosting a student for admit weekend; wouldn't it be funny if I ended up with someone from CC?

Oy, let's not talk about the thesis. But everything else is going great. :)

Silver: No, I got into Georgetown first and Penn last. I was pretty much joking (ick, Penn!). When all of your options are good ones, it's hard to go wrong in your choice.

wow you got into some great schools for transfer.
why did u want to transfer again? i guess in ur case it was well worth it..
and where did u get in..

University of South Florida really just was not for me. It wasn't what I imagined college would be like. I got into aforementioned schools, NYU, Colgate, and obviously Barnard. Barnard seemed like exactly what I wanted out of college, and it has turned out to be perfect for me.

Primefactor: just coincidentally (not that we USUALLY go to NYC this often!!!) we will AGAIN be there on the Sunday of the admitted students weekend but, sadly, D will not be able to do the overnight because she has an audition at 10:00 on Monday in NYC ---which is our reason for taking this trip. Otherwise, I know she would love to do the overnight! She is excited about getting to do the day-thing this-coming monday, however.

Best to you...maybe we will see you this weekend (not that we would know you, however. I love how small the internet can make the world!)

i hope you don't mind me resurrecting this thread. i've just been admitted as a transfer and i can't find these answers anywhere:
is there a residency requirement for how many semesters you have to live on campus? if so, what is it?
and what are my chances, as an entering soph., of getting a single?
as lame as it sounds, this will probably be the deciding factor so if any of you womyn can help me out, i'd really appreciate it!

No residency requirement. Barnard has some commuters who live at home or in an off campus apartment all four years. There's also a fantastic program where, if you're on financial aid, as a senior you can apply your housing allowance to the rent on an apartment.

As a sophomore transfer, if you want a single, you will get one. But odds are it will be TINY.
