Barnard

My mom went to Barnard and I’d really like to go. Hypothetically, if I have pretty good extra curriculars, grades, and test scores, how much does being a legacy to Barnard help. How much does being a legacy to Barnard help in general?

It’s worth mentioning for sure, mainly because it increases the chances that you’ll attend. Try to play up that angle in your application! I haven’t heard of Barnard as being a school that gives significant weight to legacies, however.

Look at section C7 here: http://barnard.edu/sites/default/files/barnard_cds_2014-2015.pdf

@deadpoolz Barnard prides itself on the fact that 20 or so students a year are daughters or granddaughters of Barnard graduates (I think the number this year was 25 according to the Dean). Unlike other colleges, being a legacy will not offset a weak application. What Barnard does like is students who stand out in one way or another. Focus on that angle.
