1 - Are there classes the day before Thanksgiving? Do most students come home that Wed, the day before (Tues) or the weekend before?

2-Do new students need to have physical exams for college? I just saw info on immunizations but nothing on physicals.

3- Students this year move in on Sat Aug 24th and classes start the 26th. How do students know where to go for all their classes? Do they just figure it out on their own or do they address that during the June orientation?

4- Someone told me that Capital One is the bank convenient for students - is this true? Do they have virtual wallets or standard accounts? Can a student just stick with the bank they already have at home or is this an inconvenience?

I am sure I will have many more questions as I think of them...as I am sure others will also. I plan on taking notes:)

Yes, they are off on the Wednesday before class. Most will leave Tuesday as soon as their classes are over or Wednesday morning, but some do stay and some of the faculty even host students for Thanksgiving if you are lucky enough to have one of those professors.

No physical, just immunizations unless they have changed that in the last two years.

Their schedules identify the building and room that the class is located in. Also, there are stations the first two days of classes that are staffed with people to direct the freshman if they don’t know where they are going.

We have had an account at the Whitney which is in the LBC, but I think Capital One may have more ATMs around town. We closed our Whitney account and bank with our home bank. They waive foreign ATM charges if you carry certain balances, so that is much better and more convenient for us. I recommend speaking with someone at your bank and see what they may have to offer. The ATM charges can add up if your son is like mine and more likely to just flip out his debit card rather than carry cash. I actually prefer that because I can see where he is spending his money! :)

My D uses Whitney, because our bank here doesn’t have branches there and doesn’t wave foreign ATM fees. It hasn’t really been an issue, but no question if you happen to use a bank that has branches in New Orleans, it has advantages. Capital One which acquired the former Hibernia Bank, or Chase Bank which doesn’t have very many branch locations but does have an ATM on campus, are I think the only two banks in New Orleans that have locations outside Louisiana or the gulf region.

As far as finding classes, no worries. Tulane is a fairly compact campus by comparison to many, and nearly all classes are held either in a building on the Gibson Quad or in Newcomb Hall, unless you are a business student. There is a nice map on the Tulane site [Tulane University - Uptown Campus Map](http://tulane.edu/about/visiting/uptown-campus-map.cfm) so once they have their schedule and class location they can map it out in about 10 minutes before even showing up for move in. Then they (and you, if you want) will have plenty of time to walk it out after the move in.

Bloomy, thanks for starting this thread. I just happened to make DS his well visit appointment today. I knew that he would need the meningitis vaccine from DS1. I printed the form that is online, which I assume was from last year. I’m assuming that it will be the same. The information can be found at: [Tulane University - Student Health Center - Home](http://tulane.edu/health/) immunizations. cfm

Well, it is on the list, so I assume so. But if your S is in the school of Business, he will have to take the BSTAT class (Math 1140). The AP credit is given for Math 1110. It is important to look at the requirements for the specific program you are interested in. He would still get the hours, but not necessarily be fulfilling any requirements with those hours.
