If I am a senior in high school, applying for college that would start in the fall of 2011, do I give the PROFILE and FAFSA information about my 2009 or 2010 income/tax returns, etc.?

I looked on the FAFSA page recently and they appear to be asking for 2009 information. The PROFILE on the other hand has a 2010-2011 and a 2011-2012 version. I'm just a little confused and for my unique situation, it means a lot.

I'm really sorry to be cluttering up the board with this question. Thanks for your help. =)

You will be filling out the FAFSA for the 2011-2012 school year. It is not available for completion until January 1, 2011. You use the tax info from 2010.
If you need to complete the Profile you use tax info from 2010 if you are starting college in 2011, September.

Now…if you need to file the Profile or FAFSA earlier than when your 2010 taxes are completed, you need to use your BEST estimates based on the most recent pay stubs. You will indicate on the forms that you have not yet completed your taxes (on FAFSA that is called “will file”…meaning you WILL file but haven’t yet). Submit with the estimates.

Plan to get your taxes done ASAP after Feb 1 which is when you should have all of your W-2 forms, 1098, 1099 etc. You will then amend the FAFSA and Profile. The FAFSA can be amended online and you will change your filing status to “taxes completed”. The Profile…well, you need to call the school. Most schools ask for you to send a printed copy of the Profile with the updated info written in on the form…so remember to PRINT a copy of the Profile when you submit it.

The Profile is available now, I believe. FAFSA not until Jan 1.

Thanks so much! That really helped. =)
