My daughter visited Bates this past summer as part of our New England tour. She did an interview and is interested in applying. She plays French Horn now and plans on continuing in college. She is not looking to major or minor in music performance, she just enjoys playing. Bates website is a little vague about music. Anyone care to comment on what opportunities there might be for her there?
Bates has a LOT of music events. Here is a sampling: http://www.bates.edu/events/arts/?q=Arts-Concerts
You will see that there are at least three concerts in three days in December featuring brass instruments. The college definitely supports the arts strongly.
I don’t know anything personally about musical events at the school. I can tell you that when D was a freshman, we visited during Back to Bates weekend. There was a live stage featuring band after band of all kinds of music. Amazing music. My husband and I were both blown away by the talent show by the students. I have no idea how they manage to find time to rehearse together and do all the other things they do. I am sure your daughter will be able to play her instrument at Bates.
Lindagaf,
Thanks for the link and the reply. I will forward it to my daughter.
