ACT - 34 C (36 R, 35 E, 34 S, 32 M)
3.93 GPA UW
School doesn’t rank
Accelerated classes until I was able to start doing college classes at a state university (which means I completed all of my graduation requirements but art and gym/health), so in terms of Dual Enrollment (my school doesn’t offer AP or IB):
10th: Calculus 1
Summer: Social Issues and Social Problems at Washington University
11th: Bio 1113, Bio 1114, English 1101, Medical Terminology, Independent Learning and Motivation
Summer: Beginning Drawing at state university (I didn’t have my art credit yet)
12th: Medical Sociology, Intro to Peace Studies, Basic Practice of Statistics, Molecular Genetics, Stem Cell Research and Application to Medicine, Genetics Writing Project, Ancient Rome and Greece, Chemistry
Some of my classes I’m taking with third and fourth years in college, and next semester one of them is the highest level an undergrad student can take, because it’s with medical and graduate students.
Extracurriculars/Honors:
Many, but to list some:
Research Intern completing my own graduate-level research project on cardiovascular disease (worked with a graduate student under a doctor at a notable research hospital)
Founder and President of Mock Trial (participated as an attorney and witness depending on the year)
Co-Founder and Co-President of Science Olympiad (placed regionally in several events)
Multi-Cultural Ambassador for a cultural program
Helped remake my school’s Student Council, was an Interim Leader last year, currently Grade Representative
Created my school’s first and only school library; now I’m one of the main managers for it
Participated in a state law program since 8th grade and won many awards through it (3rd in State Leadership Project, Mock Trial Winner (x2), Most Outstanding Student, Best Advocate (oral arguments), Best Case Brief, etc)
Over 400 volunteer hours (clinic and Red Cross volunteering, as well as self-initiated fundraisers and pet-toy making drives, etc; lots of random stuff too)
All three of my recommenders offered to write me a letter of rec, so I’m hoping that they are good. One was my science teacher last year, another had me for English for three years and is the teacher adviser for Mock Trial, and the third was my mentor for my research project.
Congrat’s to all those who have been accepted and I suspect more good news for many more. We just paid our deposit so our family is just a bit more “bearish” today. Curious about this “denial” I see from @seni0r2018. Any more info on this as it seems a bit early for a flat “no” vs being wait-listed.
@SgtFriar2015 I haven’t really asked her about it since we originally talked about it, but she said she received an email saying she got denied admissions. She didn’t tell me what she applied under or if she got any more information. She said she applied for the pre med undergraduate degree and told me she got a 1240 on her SAT and she had a 3.0 gpa. She takes all the same classes as me and she’s involved in a lot of church, sports, art, and other extra circular activities.
@seni0r2018 - I was just curious and understand there could be more denials that have yet to post. I’ve put two boys through college and this is my last. Been pretty involved in threads such as CC, FB, school-based blogs, etc…I try to have my finger on the pulse as best I can given the significance of not only “getting-in” to college, but hopefully finding your way to the better-fit. Many parents and prospective students are monitoring these threads diligently (as I do) for any insights be they remote or rock-solid. So when I say “I haven’t seen any denials”…like a FAA tower operator monitoring hundreds of incoming flights (gotta love the analogy), I am in-touch with several information sources including a bunch of students who have varying stat’s. Appreciate you sharing and I hope others do not feel embarrassed…my final son has applied to some reach schools and he’s well aware that he’ll probably get a few “no’s” but that’s fine. It’s part of life and I respect the effort y’all have put forth in pursuit of your dream. If you’re not being denied, you’re not reaching Good luck to all!
Yes there is… it’s premed under biology. A lot of my friends in group me are going to attend baylor and they are talking about pre med. We also have a freshman friend at baylor who is pursuing pre med @KWimbs
just thinking out loud here - but is it possible the denial was for the B2Med program not the actual university? My son got an email that he was not chosen for Invitation to Excellence, but that isn’t a denial for admission? again … just thinking out loud (in typed words).
@jlw7632 - of course you can be on a pre/med track at Baylor, but you can not get a pre med undergraduate degree. There is no “pre med undergraduate degree”. Pre-med is a track. You can be an English major and be on a pre-med track. Biology is a degree. So is engineering, applied mathematics, chemistry, psychology, etc. Pre-Med is not. I too, wonder if her denial was for B2B.
I’m sorry for all of the confusion. I talked to her yesterday and she did confirm she got denied admissions to Baylor and she applied under EA and she applied under pre med B2B
I talked with someone today who talked to their Baylor admissions counselor yesterday who said no denials or deferrals have been issued as of yesterday. I think @seni0r2018’s friend must be confused from her B2B decline.
@KWimbs she probably was confused. But I don’t think she’s going to go to Baylor anyway - her dream school is UT Dallas. And @student12322 I hope they review applicants during thanksgiving break, they only have 2 weeks left until December 1!
