I heard from someone whose daughter graduated from Baylor that lots of students drive home on the weekend? My daughter is from out of state and considering Baylor. She is an introvert and would have a tough time in the dorms alone. What do you Baylor students think? She has other good options too.
Thanks
I came to Baylor from out of state, and was without a car until my senior year, and I enjoyed my weekends in Waco. Baylor draws a lot of students from the DFW, Houston, and Austin areas which are a relatively short drive from Waco, but there’s actually a pretty high amount of out of state representation in the student body. Even if it was possible for my Texas friends to go home, mostly everyone I knew from nearby didn’t really go home unless it was a fall break or a long weekend.
Since Waco is between Dallas, Austin, and Houston, students have gone to those spots for concerts, seeing friends and family, and what not. When I went there, I always found plenty of things to do, on and off-campus, and had plenty of friends who stayed on campus for the weekends. There are some great spots in Waco, and I would encourage your daughter to explore the city with some of her new friends. Hope this helps!
Almost all of my friends during my freshmen year were from out of state and nearly half did not have cars on campus. Although lots of students day trip to Austin or Dallas during the weekends, your daughter has nothing to worry about as far as campus being “empty” on weekends. I’ve lived all over Texas in my life and really do enjoy living in Waco, and there are plenty of things to do in the area and on campus on a typical Friday/Saturday.
