BB Pg. 842 #13

The first term of a sequence is 20 and the second term is 8. The third term and each term thereafter is the average (arithmetic mean) of the two terms immediately preceding it. What is the value of the first term in the sequence that is NOT an integer?

The answer is 12.5, but I don’t know how to get that.

the terms in the sequece are 20, 8, 14,11, 12.5
so its 12.5
you just take the mean of the preceeding term to find the next term of the sequence
mean of 20 and 8 is 14.. likewise you will get 12.5 which is the first non integer of the seqence

^^I got it. Misread the problem. I thought it was asking for the first term of the sequence, which was given...so I got all confused...
