Do BC athletes apply RD or EA to BC when they are being recruited? Some of my friends who are getting recruited (e.g. track) said RD but im not too sure. I know this is something that I need to ask a coach about I dont want to sound cocky or desperate as I still got 1 more year. Just curious…
I believe each school is different…I would suggest checking with the coaching staff early though. I’m not sure if it’s the same for both men & women at BC, but historically BC hasn’t offered athletic scholarships to female swim athletes.
As an additional point - BC is nearing completion of a massive new athletic facility (including pool), but did not add a diving well: a fact which will basically keep BC from having a legitimate shot at building its program/contending for team ACC title as it is basically forfeiting points every meet because it doesn’t have divers.
Do you know how much pull it has for swimming? considering the fact that it’s not a big sport compared to football or hockey.
Generally, yes. Assuming an athlete and non-athlete both have comparable stats that fall within Admissions’ student profile/ranges, coaches who don’t have the carrot of athletic scholarship money to offer may be given as much or even more flexibility by the Admissions office because of the competitive disadvantage non-scholarship sport coaches are at relative to their peers who can offer money to attract top student-athletes.
Coaches at most schools are well-versed in using this incentive with potential recruits: particularly at the higher profile academic schools (with the exception of recruitment practices at the ivies which are handled very differently). For college swimming recruitment in particular - it also takes a ton of the anxiety out of the waiting period most users on this board are going through.
Swim coaches can have direct contact Junior year for D1 and even earlier for D2/D3…they’ll see your times on collegeswimming or Deck Pass to determine if they think you’re a fit for their roster and then take your Junior year transcript to their Admissions office to do a pre-read of sorts. Basically “yes- their grades are good enough to accept if you want to recruit them”, “they’re on the fence - better make sure they’re going to help you team if you’re asking us to go to bat for you” or “they’re not competitive enough academically…you should stop pursuing them as a recruit”.
