BC CSOM and Undergrad Law

Hi all,

I have been accepted to BC’s CSOM.

**I know that this is an EXTREMELY long thread, and if you guys want to skim over to the questions on the bottom, please go right ahead. **

My eventual goal is to attend a top law school, and currently I am having a very difficult time deciding which college to attend.
I was accepted to UC Berkeley, CMU’s Tepper, and BC’S CSOM.
I have taken CMU out (it was great but probably not the place for me) and am mainly deciding between UCB and BC.
At UCB, I would apply for Haas undergrad business school, which only has a 50% acceptance rate but my goal is not business oriented so that’s ok (riskiness is not a factor to which I would not go there)

Law school is hugely weighted on GPA and and LSATs. I am mainly wondering if I would do better at BC than I would at UCB, especially in earning a higher GPA.

I can tell you guys about my stats:
I am a female Korean.
My SATs were not great, I got a 2220 (710CR, 800M, 710W) in SAT I.
For SAT II I got a 760 Korean, 740 Math 2C, 730 Biology, 710 US History, and 710 Chemistry.
I had a GPA with a 3.86 unweighted and 4.5 weighted GPA (7 AP classes and all honors classes: AP Biology, AP US History, AP Psychology, AP Calculus B/C, AP World History, AP Physics B, AP English Literature)
I took 3 AP tests last year and I’m taking 4 more this May–last year I got a 4 in APUSH and Bio and a 5 in Psych.
I was the student body secretary in my public high school of over 2200 students, the freshman class president, the anchorwoman for my schools’ TV broadcasting station, two-year girls varsity basketball captain, and a member of the speech club. I am also a second degree black belt in Kendo.

I feel that I am much stronger socially than academically; many people have told me that a private college would be a better fit for me than a public college. My relationships with my teachers have always been excellent and something I look forward to every year, which doesn’t seem very likely at a place like UCB. But my parents still are pushing for UCB over BC (UCB is closer, much more well known, more selective, less expensive)

Here are my main questions:

 1. With the stats I have and the kind of person I am, will I be able to do better at BC’s CSOM compared to UCB? I have a good work ethic and I enjoy learning, studying, and working with others. Possibly get a 3.85+ GPA?
 2. Compared to UCB, how is BC in preparing you to go to law school?
 3. I would strongly consider doing a double major with either philosophy or political science. Which one would be better (preparation for law school, more manageable workload)?
 4. Is it much more difficult to maintain good grades while double majoring? Can BC help you in that aspect?
 5. How is BC in terms of prestige and name? (I live on the west coast in California, so I am not very knowledgeable here. Not a concern for me but it is something I’ll need to know since I am trying to convince them BC over Berkeley)
( I know all the rankings, so they won’t help–including 6th in businessweek for CSOM and all the us news and weekly and forbes)

Thank you so much in advance!!! (:

for law school, practically the only things that matter are GPA+LSAT score. Any top 100 uni will do, and there will be no plus factor if you attend either school.

Cal is less expensive since you are instate? Cal has a lot more gunners. Yes, transferring into Haas is not assured. OTOH, Haas is generally considered one of the few national undergrad b-schools. (CSOM is a top regional.)
