BC Early Decision for Fall 2022 Admission

In 2019 they received 2750 ED applications, in 2020 3225 which is a 17% increase. I don’t know how that’s broken up between ED 1 and ED 2 and if that information is even available anywhere. I guess if there was a dramatic shift between people who chose to apply ED 1 vs ED 2 or just a dramatic shift in ED to BC in general there could have been a doubling but it seems pretty unlikely. Is BC suddenly a more attractive school than last year? It doesn’t seem like that much has changed in the last year but I have no idea.

That 17% increase was quite fitting for last year. I’d be surprised if the increase in applicants surpassed 10%, especially since this year is a bit more “normal”.

anecdotally, I have 4 friends from all over the country who had a kid apply ED to BC. this is out of maybe 10 total who I share this info with. what i mean by that is that schools are like baby names - you think you are original but something in the culture leans us towards making certain ones popular at the same time. i am getting the impression BC is the hot school this year…the admission counselors saying they got double the early apps would support that idea and might be totally true.

Are you saying that the admissions counselor may be making it up to make BC seem more desirable or popular? Or are you saying that BC has actually become so incredibly popular that their number of ED applicants doubled in one year?

I know 30 kids out of 200 in our small Boston suburban HS applied ED to BC this year. That is definitely up significantly from last year. Typically about 80% of our kids go OOS, but it seemed like last year more kids stayed closer to home.

def the latter!

Welp… does that mean we’ll see ≈20% acceptance rates for ED this year?

(has it historically been about 40%?). assuming it has…we can’t guess. depends on how many spots they want to reserve for ed2 and regular as well as the quality of the applicants…either way it will be harder this year though

Yes, last year Early Decision 1 acceptance rate was 41%. Tough luck. Only time will tell.

All I know is that regardless of the numbers it’s very difficult to sit here in TX and wonder have you done enough to make the leap up north. Wish everyone the best of luck in the coming days!

Would calling admissions work to see if they have any information about release dates?

You as well! Acceptance or not, there’s a school out there for everyone. Numbers and grades on paper don’t define anyone.

Might be worth a try.

If you do, let us know!

Agree with this thought process. My daughter’s class is 104. 13 of which are applying ED to BC. About 30-32 in total are applying to BC. It’s insane to me that approximately 1/3 are all applying to the same school. Northeast Catholic school.

I read that last year the number of ED 1 apps was around 1950.

Yes, when we say 3.225 ED applications, we mean in total (between ED1 and ED2).

Yes, I was replying to the comment about not knowing how ED 1 & 2 were broken up. Last year ED1 was 1950 & ED 2 was 1275. (41% were accepted and 30% were deferred to the regular round)

Thank you for the breakdown, I didn’t know where to find that. So if applications are doubling that would mean about 4000 ED 1 applications this year. I haven’t noticed personally an increase in interest in BC in our mid atlantic public school but BC always seems to be a popular choice in Catholic schools and it sounds like it’s even more popular this year.

The only thing I’m noticing is that there is a lot of interest from HS in the Northeast, more specifically the New-England area, which is no surprise as over 60% of their student body comes from the Northeast alone. However, in order to truly see a doubling of applications, I’d expect the other regions of the United States to increase by an unordinary amount. For instance, I’m from NY and I’m the only student applying ED to Boston College. However, at an in-state school like NYU, about one hundred kids are applying. I hope this makes sense, just my thoughts.
