It seems like every thread I read about BC and the campus life contains references to not only binge drinking but also lots of drugs. When in college, I’m gonna have a beer or two, but the whole binge drinking/hooking up with strangers scene is completely against my morals. I love BC and know someone who goes there, but I am unsure about BC’s rep as a party school for rich kids. Any opinions? Will I fit in even if I’m not a hardcore partier, want to abstain from sex until marriage, and am not super rich and clad in designer apparel?

Yes, while BC students are plenty social, the whole animal house vibe was lost around 1993

why 1993 lol? 10 char

^My guess is that was when your SAT needed to be higher than your whiskey shot to get into BC.

ive heard there's a lot of rich druggies and partiers but im sure you can avoid them..anyone else know more about BC? I have no real clue..

Hey,
I asked something somewhat similar in another thread recently and got some good replies. Here it is: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/boston-college/515516-questions-about-bc.html

The sense I got is that, yes, you are going to run into some of that (you're likely to run into it anywhere you go to college--although maybe less of the "rich" part), but there are kids who are nonrich, nonpartiers, just like you (and me). It's not like everybody is doing it, and you can become friends with those who don't drink/only do on occation and aren't into hooking up, etc.

Hope that helps! :)

when the ticket price is $50,000/year (and that is for every northeast private college) the top half of the socio-economic spectrum is going to be heavy.

Re: they are all rich kid schools

BC is a party school. It is a school for rich kids. There is a lot of sex and hooking up on campus. That being said, I wouldn't write BC off. I know people like yourself and they love BC. Its all about finding your friends on campus and ignoring the background noise.

I did a visit to BC with one of my friends and I have to say that in complete honesty, it seemed to be rich partiers. Definitely a lot of binge drinking / hooking up from what I saw...but then again, I could definitely have just seen one part of the campus, although from what I've heard this kind of stuff is commonplace there.

yes.. hooking up and drinking is very prevalent at BC but i wouldnt call it a party school at all. there are no huge 500+ people keggers at BC. no frats at all which is pretty much mandatory for a party school.

so in all honestly you walk around on a thurs/fri/sat night and you will see drunk people walking around. just ignore them if its not your thing. theres definetly people who will not be looking to do that. there are a lot of other things to do, expecially with sports events and boston right nearby, if drinking isnt your thing.

and youll find lots a rich kids at all top schools, exp ones with a 50k per year price tag. you just have to not let yourself get caught up in the lifestyle and not worry about what brand youre wearing. cause honestly, most kids wont care. but dont equate wealth with being snooty. while some of these kids make me feel like my family should be on welfare (far from the truth) they wont flaunt it in your face or make you feel bad about not having the same $200 jcrew sweater that they do.

phew that was really long winded and i didnt expect it to be

im from a boston public school on free ride and im fine. you meet alot of different types of people.. and while drinking is common i haven't personally seen that much drug use. it's there but not anymore than any other college, and has nothing to do with the amount of money people have

my best advice is don't judge the school according to its "typical student".

i wouldn't sweat it, just don't be on the fence about what you are lookin for out of college or you won't find either.

i will also be an atypical student = poor + non partier ..mabe i'll see you their
p.m. me or some
