BC Parents are you doing ok?

My daughter is of ff campus abroad, and I can’t imagine how nervous I would be if she were on campus now with the stress of the Boston tragedies. Just wanted to send a shout out to parents and students. This shall pass soon and you will be able to continue your lives. My prayers are with you.

I’m in CA and it’s my son’s freshman year, so it’s been a stressor, no question, however, no one does security better than BC & all of the universities in the Boston area. They are on lock-down and I’m in convo w/my son a few times a day since Monday. BC has provided ongoing psychological support since Monday & had a number of masses & events of healing. I work internationally and have visited countless cities that have faced these sorts of tragedies. As Mr. Rogers reminded us, “In a disaster, look for the helpers.” Unquestionably BC prepares leaders that emulate that sentiment and more. I feel blessed my son is at such an amazing university.

I also hope this widespread Boston tragedy will not affect accepted students’ decisions regarding whether or not to attend BC. I cannot imagine my son being safer than at BC. We all worry about our children when they leave home. Tragedy can strike anywhere. Lesson is to be prepared wherever you find yourself.

laplatinum, I am in total agreement at the way Boston College has handled the situation. We have been kept totally informed by Vice President Keating and others as to the safety and well being of our students. If you are a perspective parent know that Administration, Clergy and the students themselves have shown extraordinary diligence in keeping account of all students and their safety. Boston College is as safe as you get. There is concern about getting food to them, but I have faith that they have found a way to do that. My hats off to how the students have pulled together.

Dear All : Boston College was locked down early this morning along with many other Boston regional universities : MIT (central to the most recent action), Harvard, BC, BU, Emerson and more. Boston College has first and foremost been instructing the students on actions to be taken.

For those wondering, word that I have received is that Boston College police have been escorting students, building-by-building, to the dining hall for meals. Students are immediately returned to their dorms and then the next building is handled. Boston College is doing everything for student/personnel security at this time. As a six-year parent with Boston College, I commend the University for their handling of the situation and their external communications to parents.

In closing, let me express my heartfelt condolences to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Community, the impacted family and students, and those impacted by Monday’s events.

For Boston.

Communication to my parents was superb all day Friday and into yesterday. Factual updates and assurances of safety were sent via tweets and email updates from BC all throughout the day. Well done, BC!
