Be honest: ED1, ED2, or RD for best financial aid at NYU Stern

Stern is very appealing to me, except its reputation for having a disappointingly lacking financial aid program. Which admission track gives me the best chances at getting the best financial aid, and how will that impact my chances at admission?

I suggest you call and ask if there is any financial aid advantage to applying early to NYU. THe only one that I can think about is that their funds are more full, the earlier you apply and you might have a better shot at things like Perkins, SEOG, Work study, but frankly, I’ve seen ED candidates gapped, severely so. It’s not like CMU, a school that will meet full need as they define it for ED, though not for RD. NYU has no compunction giving zero aid to ED candidates. They are need blind in admissisons but it’s up to you to come up with the money in many cases.

Their website seems to say there is no apparent advantage. However, I feel that students admitted in the regular decision pool have more negotiating power since they have schools to compare aid and can safely not accept admission.

RD.

Here’s a thread that backs up applying RD if you need FA:, from someone who used to work in admissions:
