Beaver Works Summer Institute 2020

Decided to start a new discussion thread because this program looks really interesting!

“The MIT Beaver Works Summer Institute (BWSI) is a rigorous, world-class STEM program for talented students who will be entering their senior year in high school. The four-week program teaches STEM skills through project-based, workshop-style courses … For 2019, we offered ten courses along with online content … [t]he courses are continuing to build skills in even more technology areas to teach students the skills, both technical and teamwork, to succeed in science and engineering …”

If anyone else has attended BWSI before, please tell us what your experience was like!! Also I noticed that the program size was really big (240 students!!) so I’m curious on whether or not it’s selective or if anyone can join. Thank you all!!

it’s good but not as selective as the top tier programs. Probably on the same level as COSMOS

How much do you think it would boost chances for schools like MIT and Princeton

Some further questions I’d like to ask…

  1. How difficult is it? I don't want my DS to attend this program if it will be super beginner level or if the instructors are just going to carry him through every single step.
  2. How long does it last each day?
  3. What are the participants allowed to do during their downtime?
  4. Is everyone who completes the online course component accepted?

Come on!! 240 people attended last year, there has to be someone who can answer!!
