Damn you Dean J. You mentioned all the places I like.

I like:

C&O: old school decor, old school service. interesting menu, it'd be sweet to have enough $ to eat dinner here every day.
Aberdeen Barn: best steak i've had. Rare, or don't eat here
OXO: another fancy place if you are looking for one.
Blue light grill: fantastic oyster bar
Milan: perfect indian lunch buffet, very reasonable
Christian's Pizza: creative pizza toppings. don't like mellow that much
College Inn: great gyros. great drunk food.
Little john's: last resort when im hungry and its late
Pacino's Deli: great subs, overpriced though
Lemongrass: very reasonable thai stuff
Bodo's: try their caesar salad. the bomb.
Mono Loco: very fresh food.
Ten: best sushi place in cville. but the setting is too romantic. turns me off a bit.
Michael's bistro: try their Asian coleslaw.
Cafe 88: best chinese food in cville
Just Curry: butterchicken curry is yummy. my go-to lunch spot.

One of my fondest memories of the summer nights of first semester was climbing up the Rotunda steps, after a lot of drinks, and sitting down with my two best friends and having a College Inn pizza. Both of the guys still marvel at the picture I somehow got of this moment.

My favorite spots:
1. College Inn - you can't beat the pizza really, nor their breakfast
2. Bodos - bagel anytime of the day from here is sweet...although I went this past Sunday and my bagel wasn't warm and the cream cheese all gooey :(
3. Little Johns - I actually really like their sandwiches. There's so many that you really can't go wrong, even when people like me always order the same thing
4. Vivace - nice, upscale Italian place on Ivy Rd. My parents took me here for Fall Break, and even though the food was typical of nice Italian, the place was cozy and welcoming...they even offered to carry me up the stairs because my foot was in a cast
5. Lemongrass - cheap Thai/Indian/Vietnamese, quite good really
6. Arch's - threw this is there because I went once last year with a friend I was visiting and loved it

I miss Amigo's though...horrible chips, great pitchers haha

On that note, what's your favorite bagel at Bodos? Mine's Smoked Turkey on everything bagel, with cucumbers, sprouts, provolone, and mayo. Yummy. Oh and the egg sausage never fails me.

How come no one has mentioned TAKE IT AWAY yesterday? Take It Away is an excellent, reasonably-priced sandwich/lunch shop on the corner that is always teeming with hawt chicks.

Take It Away has really good sandwiches. That place is always swarmed with frat boys and sorority girls, but nevertheless you should give it a try. My favorite is the sliced chicken or smoked turkey sandwich.

Lemongrass seriously closed? And where on earth is The Continental Drive? If it's not at the corner/downtown mall, then expect many students to say they've never been there. Not everyone has a car.

lol...I think a blog should be created where only aceit and dean J post...I look forward to a time when I can be this direct with a dean and vice versa.

this thread is useful because from literally everyone i know who goes to uva (and iknow a lot because i'm from virginia) absolutely hates the food...even guys who seem like they'd eat anything.

my friend lives at the IRC (the international dorm) and they have a lot of barbeque's....she ends up not going to the dining hall at all. lucky.

The sushi, smoothies, Chik-fil-a, Pizza Hut, and the deli at The Pav see very popular. I admittedly don't eat at the "all you can eat" dining halls and don't know much about the options at those. I have to imagine they have some of the same food. Am I wrong?

Yes, First Wok closed and it's now taken over by Revolutionary Soup, which is overpriced. And their sandwiches are kinda small.

Also, Aramark has the worst food ever, and they have a policy where their employees cannot take home leftovers. No wonder employees at the dining hall look dead all the time. UVA claims to serve healthy food, but all they feed us with carbs, carbs and more carbs.

In Newcomb dining hall, they have two areas where they serve food. The general pattern is that if they serve chicken (say grilled chicken), they're going to be serving chicken in the other area too. The same goes for beef and pork. Besides that, they always have pasta and pizza served every day, and there is very little variation. Their mexican bar is pretty bad and they serve the same burritos every night. In conclusion, the food in Newcomb is bad and full of carbs. At least O-hill has better variation with their stir-fry.

aceit...Aramark food isn't great, but it isn't the worst, either. How many other schools have you visited? I've been to a ton, and none has been absolutely terrible. The only place that really had good food was the Naval Academy, imo. Also, do you know anything about nutrition? Carbs aren't unhealthy.

I don't think the food is that bad. Some stuff at Ohill is really good in fact, but some stuff is also bland. I don't think it's ever terrible/non-edible, but sometimes it's not great and generally it isn't something you'd eat anyways, and there's always something else to eat. If worst comes to worst, you can always eat sandwiches and then use Plus dollars elsewhere. A sandwich or pizza with salad isn't terrible for you, especially if you exercise.
Also, people rave about VT's food. Yes, it was good. But I don't think UVA's is that bad compared to it.
PS- carbs arn't terrible for you. Especially if you get whole wheat stuff. And often, carb foods have other beneficial components to them, such as calcium, protein, etc. You're more likely to worse on a Friday night at frats than at Newcomb.

Aramark has invited students to give their opinions and suggestions in focus groups next week. It is even giving out $20 Itunes cards to the participants in exchange for their views. Are you participating? I am. I figure that if I gripe about the food, I ought to spend an hour of my time constructively.

Even if the beef seems to be closer to horse at times, at least Aramark seems to be listening. I'm not sure they will agree to my request for filet mignon, though.

I never said chicken, beef and pork were carbs. I said that if they served one of these in one area of Newcomb, they would offer the same food in the other area. But if you want to know why they serve carbs all the time in Newcomb, eat there for a week. They have pasta, bread, and pizza basically every day.

i just got the curry card from Just Curry. 40 bucks for 10 curries. that's 4 bucks per pop. Get it fast, price will increase very soon!

First wok was my favorite chinese restaurant because it left cville. the pig intestines (with sour mustard veggie) was top-notch. Pork with bamboo shoots in garlic source was great too!
