I really want to be a teacher, but some of my top schools, especially UCs don't offer an education major. I was wondering what some good majors to look into at UCs are if I want to ultimately become an elementary school teacher. Thanks!

one possibility is teach for america after you graduate.

A lot (well, at least some) teachers don’t get undergrad degrees in education. They go to grad school for that. Soooo you could major in a lot of stuff and go to grad school for education, a subject that is taught in schools (though this would be more helpful for high school level) or something like psychology.

I’m so hoping I can do teach for America, it’s so hard to get into these days though. I’m torn three ways right now (though I’m still waiting to hear back from a few more schools). I could go to Michigan state, which has an amazing education program, or to UCSD (which has no education program), or to Northeastern, which also has no education program. At UCSD I have no idea what k would major in, I applied with history but I’m considering switching to English lit or to independent studies (create your own major). At Northeastern I’d be majoring in ASL interpretation and probably going on to do grad work in deaf education. Input is greatly appreciated, and thanks!
