Bed Bath & Beyond

I am that person. I have a ridiculous number of BB&B coupons, and I have been known to randomly hand them out near checkout. I have also just asked people working there, and have received 20% off purchase (this is mostly years ago).

My son would call me often to ask if I had extra coupons. He has seen my green case in the car for all of his years being shuttled around, to know I had plenty! I would mail him a stack, including the $5 off $15 if he wanting in store. Online would not accept expired coupons, but I was always getting one in the mail, and one of my magazines had one inside each month, so could give his the code for that.

A lot of what is sold at Buy Buy Baby was available online at BBB, so when the first GD was born, we all use the 20% off there; we went from using for college to babies!

In the past several year, I might have gone in the store only a handful of time as the pickings were slim. My regular purchases was the large box of k-cups, which were a deal to start, and then adding the 20% off. They stopped carrying the one we use, so didn’t have a need to go in. I also got my Bona there, which reminds me I should check and see if they have any; it won’t go bad, so might as well get a few gallons!

The one near us is closing. I am so sad. I remember when a friend’s son graduated from getting his Master’s Degree. He was moving to a new city and had little in the way of household stuff. So, in addition to a check, I gave him a stack of BB& B coupons. His mother said that he said “they are all expired”. Everyone at the table said “no, they never expire”. So he was able to use them after he moved.

The 2 near me closed during Covid and I was so sad. It was definitely my go-to home store. Geez, Steinmart, Pier One, the JCP a mile from my house…all closed.

I didn’t frequent BBB, but boy do I miss SteinMart.

I just went this past week to the 4S Ranch store to get the ionic hairdryer. There are store closing signs outside, everywhere within the store, and on the windows and it’s 20% off; absolutely no returns.

We also used the pack and hold when my kids went off to New York, Davis, and Pasadena. I didn’t go there too often, but could always count on finding what I needed, when I needed it. I’m bummed because even though their prices weren’t the best, at least the items were there, that I needed.

I rarely ever went there because even with coupons, I found they’d prices high. They closed their HI stores awhile back.

I just looked. The one near me isn’t currently on the closing list. I don’t go there often, but I was in there fairly recently. It seemed less full than it used to be.

I used to like to peruse the food section but they really cut it back a few years ago; my favorite items didn’t make that cut. I also liked the toiletries - they had several items that were hard to find elsewhere. And travel sizes galore!

I am bumping this up because BBB has officially announced chapter 11 bankruptcy. I got an email saying that coupons would not be accepted after April 26. There is a somewhat later date for gift certificates and returns. They expect to fill all orders that have been placed. Registries will be transferred to some alternate platform.

Not a surprise…but it’s getting harder and harder to just go into a store, see and touch these types of items…and buy them. Maybe it’s me…but I like to see and touch linens, and look at sizes of things like pots and pans. For bridal registries, I like to see what the couple has chosen in person.

Guess these will soon become things of the past☹️

It’s not just you.

That I don’t mind.

But I will miss the miscellaneous area filled with tchotchkes where I’ve often picked up an item and wonder how I lived so long without owning one and I just had to buy

I’ll also miss their sale shelves. I’m not an online shopper for household things…

I received an email today from BBB that they were voluntary going into bankruptcy.

I didn’t go there much - closest one is 25 min away. But after going to Kohl’s and Target, did a big shopping trip to BBB for the rest of the dorm stuff needed. Same for when we redid our kitchen.

I think folks will miss the BBB thing where you ordered where you lived, and picked up at the college location. We loved that…because it was easier to see and pick up what we really wanted…than it would have been to have to return things ordered online that weren’t then needed.

I think you can do similarly at other stores like Target. In fact, if I was a married-to-be I’d probably choose to register at Target over someplace like BBB - if I wanted fancy dishes or small appliances there would be alternative places to register - like William Sonoma, Crate and Barrel, etc.

I am GUESSING that the BBB closure won’t affect college dorm shoppers. They have probably largely switched over to Target, Walmart, Amazon, TJ/Home Goods.

In terms of brick and mortar stores, only the strong survive!

I agree… it BBB was a staple for this sort of shopping for a LONG time.

Sad. They will stop accepting coupons on Weds.

Another stack of paper I can throw away .
It is kind of sad. I may do a run there between now and Weds.

Do we know they are going out of business?

We don’t know for sure…but many stores have already closed. Where I am, the stock in the open stores is…well…limited. Even during the holidays it was limited. I went looking for a new Christmas tablecloth…and they had absolutely none. The selection of everything has just been going down.

Per below,

Bed Bath & Beyond said it would sell off its merchandise and then go out of business. The company said customers will have Sunday, Monday and Tuesday to use their remaining 20%-off coupons. The company will stop accepting coupons on Wednesday. Instead, Bed Bath & Beyond expects to offer “deep discounts” on its products as part of its going-out-of-business sales.
