Bed & Breakfast?

We will be visiting Grinnell shortly - my kids will be staying overnight with hosts, so H and I were considering a B&B. Any recommendations? Hotel recommendations are fine, too, of course.

Stay at The Carriage House, a B&B across the street from the campus and within walking distance of everything. Google it.

We have stayed at the Carriage House, too, which is very convenient to campus. There is another B & B that looks like it’s worth checking out. The Marsh House. It is also close to campus. Have not stayed there because the owner was ill in November, last time we were in town. But it looks very nice & I hope to check it out next time we are in Grinnell.

We have never stayed at a B&B there because my hubby wanted a fitness facility, but I would love to try one. Once you have a student at the college, you can use the world class fitness facility on campus.

I’ve stayed at both Marsh House and the Carriage House - they are both lovely. The Carriage House is a little closer to campus, I think.

Carriage House was really great. I will only go visit the school when I can stay there. Try and book early for move in and for parents weekend. I did it as soon as my daughter was admitted. I have already booked for parents weekend 2010 and for move in 2010. You just need to park your car and you can walk every place - the town has great resturants and it makes visiting very easy.

Just fyi, we tried to book a room at the Carriage House during parents weekend of S’s freshman year for his graduation four years hence. We felt a bit silly asking so far in advance, but even sillier when we were told that it was already totally booked up!

On the plus side, I understand that a local church group has its congregation open their homes to parents attending graduation (you can book in January of that year), and the proceeds get donated to the church. And of course, there are always the chains that line the highway into town…
