I got a likely letter BUT im getting no financial aid. my parents said unless i can get it down to 25/year they refuse to let me go.

what can i do...i applied to a bucnh of scholarships and a lot of them I lost with exception of coca cola

how do u no ur getting no financial aid?

i got my student aid report from georgetown and they literally gave me $0 so im expecting same from columbia

repeat above - only way you know at this point is if you didn’t apply.

you can’t beg for finaid. if you get in elsewhere you are able to ask columbia to look at other finaid offers, especially if they are better than columbia’s. and columbia may adjust its own review. even if you get no better offers, if this is a concern of yours - it is important to have the conversation, figure out where columbia is coming from. but if you’re not getting finaid from other schools, chances are you aren’t gonna get some, let alone go to half off.

and the last thing i remind folks - your EFC has nothing to do with what your family would like to pay. it is based on what is reasonable for them to contribute based on their income and assets. for most families, paying for college requires sacrifice; either early on in a family’s life to start saving, or when students are in college to cut back on some things for others. very few people have 55k sitting around such that it wont impact the family in some capacity.

and from being in your situation where my parents at first said heck no, its a conversation that happens as things go. at times the best thing for the rents is to go to the days on campus events, to see the school, and to fall in love with it the way you have. when my mom saw how happy i was after spending a few days there, it changed the conversation from “we can’t do this” to “how are we going to do this.”
