If your a RA you get a free room right? Would this reduce your financial aid? Would you do all the work of a RA, and still have to pay the same amount per year because your aid got reduced, or is the aid caculated before the free room is taken into account for?

I believe that the financial aid would be reduced if the RA's room cost is paid by the university.

They might reduce self-help financial aid first (work-study and loans).

financial aid is based on your cost of attendance. if your cost of attendance with housing(dorm) included comes out to 40,000, than they'll give you a financial aid package based on your cost of attendance of 40K.

If you live at home your cost of attendance will obviously be lower so that cost of attendance can easily be 30-35K per year instead of the 40K it would cost to live in the schools dorm. So then in this situation they would give you a financial aid package based on your COA of 30-35K.

It's logical that they'll give you financial aid based on your cost of attendance, unfortunetly for you housing won't be part of your cost for the school year, so it's most likely that they'll give you a smaller package.

my school, doesn't give financial aid on total cost of attendance, it basis it's financial aid on cost of tuition, so even if i were to become an RA, my financial aid would remain the same. If your school gives financial aid based on tuition only, than your financial aid should stay the same. however if they do it based on cost of attendance, than they'll give you a smaller package.

however tt all depends on the school. different schools have different financial aid policies, so it's almost pointless asking us. you should really ask your financial aid dept(did you ever think of that?)
