to answer your question in post 188, tiger, I ask you to re-read post 108.
It takes a quote FROM THE very law you cited; it explains it is the student’s responsibility to inform the school in advance.
Reposting for clarification.
I think this is the third time this has been posted now. People seem to keep forgetting it.
@younghoss and @sylvan8798 the material quoted is not the law. It is from an informative website. If you have an actual quote from the law I would like to see it. I reviewed the law and could not find any prior notification requirement. Is it a good idea to give prior notification. Yes!!! OPs problem was an emergency
@tiger1307: in post above you seem to show disdain for two posters who don’t quote the "law"but only refer to some mere informative website. Yet in your post 107 you encourage people to read a Q and A at a website and treat the Q and A as if it was the “law.” How do you reconcile what other people have offered with your own post?
It is certainly clear that it is not up to individual professors to decide whether students fall under the purview of the ADA. Above my pay grade, as they say.
@jugulator20 I didnt mean to show disdain. There are lots of good things in the website. Not everything in the website may be 100 per cent accurate. This is a bathroom emergency not a mental health issue such as ADHD or acute anxiety that would require documentation from a mental health professional . If there is law or regs on point I would like to see it. I couldnt find it. I do think we are starting to get very repetitive
@tiger1307, the OP admitted that this is indeed an anxiety problem he has. It’s not acute, but chronic, according to him, which would make him the ideal candidate for accommodations if this is that big of a deal to him. But he would need to do it in advance as UT has a published policy that any prof may enforce at any time. It’s no different for a student who need accommodations such as a quiet room or extra time. They can’t just demand these on the spot.
This thread has gotten very repetitive. I am closing it now.
