This is an absolutely incredible opportunity.

Of course the decision is up to you, but I would definitely recommend taking it, as long as you can imagine yourself happy at Middlebury. Middlebury is an amazing school with so many wonderful things you can take advantage of. Best of luck to you, and congratulations on accomplishing something really special. :)

Well next is the third and final round. It is a group interview… 25 students. The people running the interview will be Posse staff and Middlebury admissions. I’m not sure what exactly we will discuss, but I believe it’s about stories about ourself, why we want to go to the school, etc etc.

Out of that group, 10 will be chosen. That interview takes place in mid December. I get my decision a few days before Christmas. Wish me luck!

If I were you I would reach out to Posse students that have done the final round so that you can learn a bit more about the final round. I mean 25 people explaining why they want to go to college sounds a little weird for a group dynamic. I’m wondering why that wasn’t covered in individual interviews. It can’t hurt to ask and it might help to understand the group aspect of the process.

Keep in mind that body language is much more important than the actual words you utter. Great eye contact, a smile, a nod to reinforce a positive point goes a long way. Basically the opposite of this:

Two small points to add. Re: getting home to New York , there is a mid-semester break in the fall (Columbus Day), Thanksgiving, Christmas, end of J-term break Feb. 1 etc. and Midd runs buses to and from New York City. My daughter took it back after the mid-semester break and it was very convenient. So you will get home. Re: music practice—Middlebury owns a former factory called the Old Stone Mill and a students- dominated board decides how to use it for students who are not art, music and business majors to further their interests in those areas by providing them space in response to proposals. I may not have all the details exactly right but I think there was something about it on the Middblog recently. Good luck!

I suggest dropping Middlebury admissions (a specific person if you got the name/email of someone during your trip) a note conveying thanks for the visit and your enthusiasm about Middlebury, what you enjoyed about the school, and how much you hope they’ll accept you. It’s such a quirky school and has such difficulty holding onto its URMs that it probably wants to select the potential Posse students who’d be happiest there. Your sending such an e-mail could help tip you in. Anyway, it never hurts to send a thank-you note.

Definitely take the next month to explore it in depth so that you are ready for the next round. Again I want to suggest utilizing the Midd forum of this site.

Were you able to meet any Posse students at Midd?

Great post Northstarmom! How often we forget the basics when we give suggestions. I’d definitely would suggest a hand-written note. It takes 10 minutes to do and will be appreciated by the person much more than an e-mail.

I’ve been a frequent lurker of this site for quite some time as I use it to answer the more obvious questions for college admissions, and SAT/AP help.

Your post to this thread actually tipped the bar for me to create and account to converse with you.

I’m a Posse Finalist for Middlebury with the EXACT, absolute EXACT, same situation and feelings as you.

I’ve been accepted, as well as my best friend to attend the final meeting on Dec. 15 and I’m scared out of my pants on how much this scholarship would mean to my family, and the fact that it’s for one of the top universities on the east coast.

I just want to say that I’m wishing you the best of luck, and I’m probably going to see u on the 24th when we send it our applications xD.

Just wanted to leave you with the note that… even if we don’t get into the top 10, Posse Access seems promising for the other posse partners…

i have a question
can you pls tell me about ur visit to middlebury. im thinking of taking my daughter who is a junior in hs there in two weeks. give me details pls like did you go to the admissions office when you went to visit. did they give you a card to sign in and did u meet with a rep and if you got a tour. pls help we are new to the college process

I see that I’ll be joining you at the interview as well. I actually thought it was the 16th of December, but I’ll have to double check that. I am so nervous. I hope it goes well.

Here’s a link to the CBS Evening News feature on the Posse organization (same video as the Youtube link in post #52), but there are other backround videos & info as well.
